Severe Storm Policy

In the event of a severe weather storm advisory from the weather bureau, Butler dispatchers will advise the EMA/Fire Chief and/or his delegate per radio, telephone, or text.

When the weather bureau issues a severe weather warning for Bates County and the City of Butler, then the Fire Department and all Alert Monitors shall be activated and toned accordingly.  Storm Spotters will be dispatched to pre-determined locations to physically watch the storm.  They will notify the appropriate authorities who may or may not activate the Emergency Operations Plan.

In the event of a tornado warning for Bates County,  the Butler Fire Department and other agencies will be notified immediately by the Butler Dispatch.  If the storm is in the vicinity of Butler, storm spotters will be sent to  watch.  If the  threat is near the City of Butler, fire trucks will be dispersed and the EOC will be activated for radio traffic.  If the tornado warning is in the vicinity of the City of Butler, the  storm sirens will be activated immediately.
